“Don’t Rattle Granny’s Bones” in Porridge

I’m delighted to announce the publication of my essay “Don’t Rattle Granny’s Bones” in the UK magazine Porridge. As suggested by the above image, the essay centres on driving and locomotion while also more broadly addressing themes of gender, history, and family. Alternating between earlier decades and the present day, “Don’t Rattle” evokes an era when traffic was lighter and the open road beckoned, with, among other pleasures, the lure of an ice cream smorgasbord.
